Tell us about the person behind the business: After completing my studies in Italy and Slovenia in Sales & Marketing, I came to Australia where I have spent most of my professional life in fashion. I worked for brands such as Oroton, Marchon Group, Oxford Shop and Herringbone. Over the years I was involved with almost all relevant areas in the industry, from operation, to design and buying, distribution to people development and training. This has allowed me to become skilled in all areas and it become very helpful when I decided to start my own brand.
Tell us about your business: My dog Sasha, is a rather pampered pooch, she has chewed or refused to sleep on many dog beds .I tried to find the right bed for her and I think it's fair to say that they aren't generally aimed at a design conscious market, despite being available in a wide range of colors, fabrics and prints. Every time a friend came over to visit, my first urge was always to hide her bed in the laundry. If like me you are a dog lover, you'll know just how much a dog helps to make a house a home and reminding us of the important place they occupy in both our homes and our hearts. Like so many crucial events in life, I started sasha & me by chance, I wanted to do something that I would be passionate about and make a difference. Combining my love for design with my love for dogs, sasha & me was born in 2012. We offer fashionable, contemporary products for dogs and dog lovers. Each high quality product and accessory has been designed to enhance and strengthen the relationship between people and their four legged friends. The brands philosophy is based upon Contemporary Design, Eco Friendliness and Fair Trade. I would definitely say that we're minimalist and modern, and that it's all about functionality and keeping it simple and clean. Homes are changing and people focus on their interior more than ever before. They can spend hours carefully choosing a lamp or a chair, it makes complete sense to choose something equally beautiful for their 4 legged friends.
What do you find to be the hardest part of running your own micro business?: There are many hardships and heartaches involved in owning your own business, high expense is perhaps, the one most devastating. For me was learning to do everything myself; Product Developer, Warehouse Manager, I.T geek, Accountant (I hate that part with a passion) Marketing and PR person and the list goes on. But, there are also many rewards. The rewards far outweigh any hardships. If you get the opportunity, take it and run with it. The experience will be worth it.
Do you have a support network to keep you motivated?: I tend to be inspired by brands who are willing to take risks and are constantly creating beautiful things. Sometimes I tend to forget where my direction really is. Of course, there is always a goal when you work on something. There is always that one big thing that you want to achieve. Think about it daily. Doing this will help you to work harder in order to reach that goal earlier. Also, the more you think of it, the more it will come true. It's important that you surround yourself with positive people.This refers to people who will always tap you on the back and encourage you to do what you want to do. You will have more energy and inspiration to go on with work if there are people who support you. You will even be more encouraged if these include your loved ones and other special people in your life.
What makes your business stand out from the rest?: Our line is clean and simple. Plenty of other brands already focus on the same look. Pet stores are filled with pet beds with paw and bone prints. For me, our dog beds are pieces of furniture that should compliment your interior and your style. We spend hours carefully choosing a new sofa, a lamp or a painting, so it makes complete sense to me that majority of pet owners see their pets as a friend and share a respectful relationship with them, therefore they want to integrate a pet bed with their home. All of our designs are minimal and modern. We focus on quality and the environment. Whenever we can we use organic, recycled or sustainable material. We are respectful about our best friends and treat our pets with style and care combined with good quality.
Do you have any specials or best sellers?: The sogno pods , the classico and fofo beds + throw rugs are currently on the top of the list.
Do you have a top tip to other micro businesses starting out?: If you can't find what you were looking for, just found your own company and create it. Follow your passion and love what you do. You will not be successful if you' re in it for the money. Follow your dream and never give up. Sometimes I forget I have a business… because I do what I love. — every day is a great day!
